Nike TV Advert Analysis 1 - Chris Waddington

Nike TV Advert Analysis

Advert 1 – Nike Basketball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HTvGvNSSk8
This advert is basically a montage of different famous basketball players doing tricks with basketballs. The main advertising technique of this advertisement is celebrity endorsement. This is used to show different celebrities, who are role models, wearing all sorts of Nike apparel. The lighting that is used makes the background of all the shots dark and the celebrity well lit to make it the main subject of the advertisement.  This works quite well and it allows you to concentrate on what is happening instead of being distracted by things in the background. This advert has the usual conventions of a Nike advert. For example it begins and ends with a fade in/fade out shot of the Nike Tick Logo and ‘Freestyle’ next to it, as this is the slogan for this particular advertising campaign. Another well done part of the advert is the editing. In parts of the advert a basketball is thrown from one player off the shot, and caught by another player in another shot. The way it is edited makes sure that if the ball leaves the first shot on the right it will enter on the left in the next shot to  make sure the continuity is correct.
